fixin' stuff...new pics

well I stripped the bike down to temporarily fix the headlight bucket because the whole front end is trying to fall off, had the right air duct fell out on the way home from a BEAUTIFUL ride over to Morro Bay on an empty twisty road. Not only was it twisty but it was in the foothills so there were all kinds of elevation changes, it was SO much fun. I was lucky enough to have the air duct land on the right shoulder of the road where no traffic was able to destroy it, went back and picked it up, unscathed.

anyway, I took the tank and rear fairings off and covered the nasty maroon primer with grey to match the front. and primered the rear cowl cover, which looks SOOOO much better than the seat.

I'm going to have to get a new headlight housing because this one's broken worse than I thought. I made some temporary progress with it welding it together with a solder gun and I'll put JB Quick over the cracked areas. I'll be able to creatively use some zip ties in a way that will get me through a month or two until I can buy a new headlight housing. The left fairing is slightly cracked but will be easily fixable, a few little odds and ends here and there but nothing major. there's been some hacking done to the poor wiring harness, lots of butt splices but no shady connections, everything works well.

Just little stuff, it's actually in very good shape for having spent a lot of time on a track and having 27,000 miles!!

man I kno how you feel. my old bike I think i spent more time working on it then actually riding.

All the bolts and thing to hold the farings on were different ones, or just half assed on there, no maintanence was ever done on it, the thing rattled like a mother fukr, TONS of tiny thing that kept pissin me off with lol

This is why I went out ang got the nice new shiny bike :smt048

maybe the end of this year, I just want to get through the steep part of the learning curve on a bike that doesn't matter so much, keep this one for about a year or so and then get a shiny bike.
i've got a few pics i'll put up, going to paint the fairings today...I got some VersaChem/Napa 'plastic welding system' two part epoxy that fuses the plastic, kinda eats into it, fixed some of the cracks. I'll put some before/after pics up when I get it back together.

it's now Air Tractor yellow. aircraft paint! we were painting a bunch of panels and part of the frame after some repairs so I just prepped my fairings and painted them too. it's very close to Ferarri yellow!

damn my bike looks anarexic next to the older gixxers... hell i rode on my buddies 01 gixxer yesterday and it felt fat as hell. Then he rode mine and told me "It feels like a toy. You can flick it over like nothing. When i get a track bike it will be a r6." I just about fell over haha

yeah the tank is pretty wide but it's never in the way and it makes a nice big platform to lay down on while i'm cruisin straight.
did a few more things to it the last couple weeks....
