yaaaay bike people
good to see a bike section! i just got my first bike a few months ago so I'm very new to the bike scene. SOOOOO much fun so far!! i picked up a 97 GSX-r750 in good mechanical condition and poor to fair cosmetic condition that a friend learned on. if the bike survives this year without sliding then i'll paint it next winter but for now it's going to stay two-tone primer.
I have a good group of friends that I ride with that are pretty safety-conscious but not scared, a few of them go to the track often; we have some nice roads to ride on and options if we want to go to the coast or to the mountains.
had a ton of fun watching THE race at Laguna Seca last year, it's only a few hours away and we will be going again this year.
I'll put pics up soon but don't have time today.

welcome to the club!
Welcome to the club! Biking is my passion, I have a RR Repsol Rep and a TLR 1000 racebike. I would suggest, if you havn't already, get some good gear. Gloves, jacket, boots, etc.... I realize that it can be pricy, but dead cow and textiles are cheaper than skin grafts. Sounds like ya gotta good group to learn with. Don't let your ego write a check you can't cash and have a blast! Track days are a great way to accellerate your learning curve. The Gixxer is a great bike-enjoy. I hope I don't sound to "preachy" but I'm really passionate about our sport and hate to see newbies get in over their head or hurt because no one spoke up.

eric, good advise, thanks. I do have some pretty good riding gear and will be continually looking to upgrade that. I have two pretty good helmets, alpinestars and joe rocket jackets, both armored with removable liners, joe rocket pants, dainese back protector, some italian armored gloves and for now I just wear my leather work boots but I'd like to get some better shoes to ride in.
I've been in a really bad car accident and I have a lot of respect for not being over-confident riding as I'd like to not hurt that much ever again. I know bikes get a bad name from idiots that get on and open it up without knowing anything about how to watch for hazzards.
anyway, thanks for the welcome, I'm glad I got an invite to this site.

how do you like ur back protector?? im in the market for one, but the only bitch of it is i cant try them on. sorry to hear about the accident. as far as preaching, i could not stress enough how importnat gear is. a friend of mine went down hard and if he would of been wearing his leather. he woulda walked away. instead he was sitting in ICU for 5 days. had lacerations from the waist up that were arterial. crazy shit man. ride safe!

when i'm riding i can't even tell that it's there unless it's hot out. hot to me is above 95 with mild humidity. it allows me to lean side to side and bends forward with my back really nicely. sometimes i forget i have it on.
i've heard the downside to them is that if you hit something perpendicular(like a telephone pole) it can pinpoint the stress into just a few vertebrae but that doesn't really matter if you hit it fast enough to break the back protector you're screwed anyway.
i like that it'll help protect me for sliding on my backbone or tail bone and will offer some impact protection
