Yamaha FJR
this one still has me shakin my head...
I'm on a road trip, bombin' down 1-75 when I pass a guy about my age (read old) on a new yamaha FJR. 145 HP - big bike.
We get stuck in a traffic plug; he's cleanin' the dirt off my back bumper, itchin' to split the lane as soon as traffic clears. I see this, and notch down from 6th to 4th, ridin' the fat part of the HP and TQ curve while waiting for the opening.
the last car starts to pull over...
Max's throttle plates are whacked open hard before the lane is fully clear.
This gives me the jump on the FJR; Max pulls a couple of lengths B4 the guy rolls on. Now you gotta know - I'm fully expecting him to flyby like an F-14 with the afterburners lit. But...
We started from a stupid fast roll...wind resistance tends to kill a bike's top end/top gear acceleration, and it appeared the guy didn't downshift.
so - there's a TON of open road in front of us, and I'm not lettin' up...
We roll.
In a matter of seconds, we're moving stupid fast. the FJR is still runnin' me down, but it's slowed to a crawl I'm chipped at 155; the FJR maxes out at 154.
We ran into the next traffic plug - the best the FJR could do was get to my back bumper.
the bike rider spent the next fifteen miles looking Max up and down - trying to figure out how he'd be held off.
I'm sure he's still scratching his head.
