68 coronet w/ built hemi vs "cam only" formula fir

*This story is completely fictional and is for entertainment purposes only. I do not participate nor approve of street racing, take it to the track*

Well my buddy "Hemicar" off the local board and I were BS'in back and forth about running the 6k lb 68' coronet w/ some mountain professional built hemi vs the fireturd. Me being on motor alone knew I didn't have anything for the lil coronet that could with it's 700hp motor so I asked for a little something. Hemicar was feeling generous and looking to break it off in the firebird so he decided to give me two and the move. What a nice guy. Anyway we hit up the local 1/4th and my other mopar buddy sets up the 2 car set out. Hemi car and I both get a nice broadie in to heat up the tires. We both stage the cars and I bring the RPM's up to a nice 5k, make sure hemicar is ready then drop the hammer. Bam the fireturd is scootin' out of the hole while the hemicar is sleeping. Pull him pretty hard out of the gates and am sitting pretty around the 1/8th mile. That's where the trouble starts, that hemi has a nasty top end pull and I notice him coming back in a bad way. Watching the hemi headlights in the rearview must have got to me because I miss 4th gear. DAMN. Slap it back into 4th and get back on the gas. I'm sweatin' it at this point watching that hemi closing in the gap but the race ends with me out by maybe a car on the hemicar. Not too bad for a little "cam only" firebird.

Sounds like a good run, Hemis aren't as bad-ass as most people think...

Also, a 68 Coronet only weighs in the neighborhood of 3300 lbs...

wow, good kill! but there's no way in a frosty hell your car should beat a 700 horse coronet. especially with you missing a shift. i'd say it was your lucky day!

He runs high 10's my car is in the low to mid 11 area on motor. My car leaves just as hard on the street as it does on at the track, I think thats where his downfall was. With the two car setout and the Jump I got way out on him. I have actually raced him heads up off a flagger, which you can see in the video I posted up on motown in the picture/video section.

There is the vid. We are the last two races on there, first race I bogged my launch bad, second race no problem on the launch and put about two on the coronet and kept it that way until the 1/8th mile.

Car made 787 or 777flywheel hp (coronet that is). Motor was built by Barton, no idea who it is I guess it's a big hemi builder or something. As for my car Ryelou pretty much nailed it. Stock heads, block, crank, rods and pistons, pretty much everything else has been modified.
