I charge more and drink expensive beer, especially for pulling trailers, no shame in getting paid to haul stuff for friends/mutual friends.
yes, the trucks are definitely something to not blow off. for one, the `99-newer chevy trucks have LS1's with minor variations. the Lightnings are very respectable stock and are easily modded.
Diesels are absolutely amazing. My truck has not lost to a rice rocket yet(but I haven't raced a legitimately fast car/turbo car either). I've destroyed I don't even know how many fart-tuners on the freeway(and yes, I'm only counting the times they actually tried) because my truck pulls from 45-95 like its' ass is on fire...~45psi boost will do that to just about anything; best thing is I drive hard and get 15mpg, drive normal and get 18mpg, drive easy and i'm at 22mpg average.
compared to the other modded trucks, mine is a bit slower but the Cummins inline 6 is for towing so it'll go over an 8% grade with a load and honestly not know there was more than a little hill in the road. the 1st gen dodges(89-93) started it off but the 2nd gen 12v(94-98) and 3rd gens(03-06) are the rams to watch out for. the 3rd gens are rediculous, a friend of mine that runs a diesel performance shop out of his garage is at 675HP and about 1,200 ft-lbs with his daily driven shop truck, an '03 dodge, with a single turbo, stacked boxes and a tiny bit of nitrous.
watch out for the Dmaxes, if those things have 1 or two fueling boxes and a little other minor work here and there(intake housing, exhaust...) they will beat most quick cars*(read: c5 corvettes) if they launch in 4WD. those things are FAST; the newer ones don't have the engine issues they used to, in the truck world we like to call them nice cars. they are great for a light duty diesel truck if you're going to commute, mildly hot rod and not seriously tow or offroad.
the 6.0h no powerstrokes are fast until the turbo, head gasket, injector or piston decides to grenade...not if but when. I'm not sure what the ego thing is with the Ford diesel guys, they're always taunting about how much better their truck is but very few actually follow through and race/tow/hook up to a tow strap or talk actual power numbrs, kindof a half-rice rocket driver syndrome and they stereotypically do not ever admit there's anything wrong with their truck(I.E."never had a problem...with my second engine, third transmission, 5th turbo and 2nd head gasket set.") it confuses me to no end.
If you're still skeptical for some reason, do some video searches for diesel drags and look up the DHRA, yes, similar to NHRA but for diesels.
