Just a question about the street scene and racing
What do you all consider street racing? From what I am reading it looks like most of the post are about seeing a car at the stoplight or driving down the street, and doing an informal match like that?
Is this what the street scene is now a days? I have been out of the car thing for quite a while, but this is totally different form the stuff that I did when I was serious into it. At the time when I was doing it, I never had a stoplight race, passed anyone on the highway or anything like that. In fact I never beat any car by more than a car length or two (intentionally).
My races were really different to what seems to be the norm of todays car cruising, maybe thats how things are now. I was accustomed to racing on desolate stretches of road and there was always cash involved, quite a bit there was attitudes, violence and fights. For heavy action and serious cash it was a good idea to bring weapons, because you never knew if you opposition was packing or not. Since hustling was the name of the game the loser was never happy.
I am sad to see ramchargers go out of business, it was always a great spot to fish, does the closing of places like this reflect the change in the scene?
Of course this was long ago, and I do not endorse or participate in anything like this. Racing on the street is very DANGEROUS, esp if you don't know if the person is going to run you off the road, pull a gun or if the the whole thing is a police setup.
How has the scene changed?
What is classified as a street race?

A lot of guys on here race from a roll or from a stop light up to the speed limit.... I never really did that much at all! When I raced, I raced from a street light up to a 100mph+ down on Telegraph or on the service drive. A lot of peole think racing from a role and going from a street light up to 60mph is street racing. I don't think it is, it should be related to the 1/4 mile(which is around 100mph+) After my first drag racing ticket I knew I was done. So I don't really street race anymore. It's kind of stupid and most of the cars you end up racing aren't even worth it!!!!
As for the scene changing... It's changed a lot from how my dad talks. They'd set something up, they'd have classes.... Nowadays, it's just whoever you get at the line or whoever is right beside you from a roll. I think it is due to the law inforcement change. Strict policy nowadays, they'll throw the book at ya. Thus, a lot of people are doing the roll bullshit. Quick and hard to spot. As from the light, very obvious.
My theory is take it to the strip!!!

Damn! Another good reason to take it to the track. "Guns don't mix with cops and cars!"

I think I know what your reffering to. Growing up in flint we had both, a lil street racin along Dort Hwy, and the side streets as well as heading to a couple of local spots in the Flint area that had the streets lined up with people. At these events there was betting and fights (one death that I kno of). Now tho..........when I go back I stay away from those places. I'm happy to make a few laps up n down the strip and call it a nite! But........if by chance someone wants to play.......(from a stop or roll) I jus may or may not oblige!
Depends on how im feeling! :smt048
Plus up here??!!??!! No body that I kno of will run?? :))bo
Maybe it's the thought of smakin a deer at a "buck-ten" that frightens? :smt017

Used to be a few people up here that would run - Probably still are, it's just that I'm out of the scene. Yes hitting a deer at 110 is scary thought, but sometimes I just can't resist to push the pedal a bit.
BTW I could be persuaded to run, depending on my mood (no guarantees though) -

i think the informality of it has gone out the window. it doesnt matter when, where, who, how or what. if u look at me and i look at u.....lets do it. i really could give two hoots about street racing as i like to putts around in my ride and occasionally like to smoke the rubber when its wet out..never dry :smt018 if the racing scene disappeared i could careless, as long as the car scene never leaves.street racing does have a rush but its just not do-able. i mean the runs are from like 30-90mph...in a 45!!!!! lol
like Mr. SLP LS1 said, they will throw the book at you for it.

I hear that! I was up visiting my cousin and grandparents up near Wadhams road, City: Goodals. And was having a little fun :smt077 Kind of worried about a deer just running right out in front of me. I'm sure my car's loudness must scare'em away a bit, but you never know. It's real easy getting into trouble out there, real easy! Them straightaways can be quite intriguing :smt048
