Gangstas!
I'm boppin down the fwy on my way to a meetin - thinkin' 'bout tradin' in Max for a fresh Z06, 'cuz I was thinkin' I needed more HP.
Get down Southfield way, and this Chrysler 300C pops onto the freeway, acceleratin' hard.
Black 300C, custom grille work, dubs on the corners. Gangstas in the front seats. Inna matter of seconds, they're six inches off of Max's tail.
Allrightie then...
I'm not a big fan of highway encounters. Aside from the fact you can roll up to some serious speeds inna hurry - there's no skill involved. Mash you foot to the floor and keep the car pointed straight ahead - the motor does the rest.
That being said - folks have been hyping the hell outta the Hemi's ability to run on the big end...So checkin' it out with da gangstas seemed to make sense.
Max and I were runnin in the 70's - we nocked the next lower cog and slid over a lane with lots of open pavement ahead. Da gangstas romp on it - I let them get to Max's door before tipping in.
Ran the full length of 4th and managed to get rubber on the 4-5 shift for the very first time - then rolled up some speed in 5th B4 shutting it down hard. I won't tell ya how fast we were rollin' cuz it was silly fast.
Da gangstas?
Bus lengths behind. Max had opened up a good four lengths before the 4-5 shift, and that was the last time I was able to see da gangstas clearly in the rearview. Dey was hootin' and a hollerin', beatin' on the dash to make the 300 go faster. At no time did they close any of the gap - Max pulled on 'em the entire time.
After hammering the brakes to get back to a decent speed, da gangstas catch up. Before splitting off, they had a buncha chances to get alongside and do it again - they just sat back there, all down low.
Yeah, it's got a hemi.
So - what's your point?

I gots to be honest witcha...
After runnin' the 300C, I got down to the 'vette store and the desire to own a Z06 pretty much evaporated. There's an 18 month wait list for the new one, and Max is pretty much even-steven with a stock C5 Z06. Max is paid for - droppin' 80 large (Z06's are goin over list) for a wee bit less in the ET dep't just doesn't get it for me.
Besides -
I've already voided the warranty on Max the Mach; I'm on my 2nd engine and 2nd trans. Finally got him sorted out to where I can launch hard on the Nittos and still not spin the snot outta the 4.30's - on the street, that combo is pretty hard to beat. I ran a '62 Ford with a 513 crate motor turnin' 10.90's, and we were door-to-door thru 1st.
FWIW, Max is a sneeky Mach - modded but still stock appearing; lots of little tricks to make him roll. Last outing netted 12.950 @ 108.61 on a greasy track - many mods have been made since then. If I were to bet - he's a 12.5-12.6@ 109 ride these days.
Ran a lightly modded '04 GT today - just *killed* him. 8-10 lengths after 2-1/2 gears, easy.

GT's dont really stand up to much..i spank my step dads GT...so what are your mods?
I doubt you are side by side with a Z06...unless they have no idea how to drive. Being side by side through first gear or 2nd doesnt mean much in a real race....heck it has just begun. Im side by side with my buddies CBR600 f4i from 50-150 but that doesnt mean my car is faster because he would whop me below that with my DR's. I have raced a few Z06's with *really good drivers* and i barely pull on them...that is at 405rwhp dyno'd and 576 trq on spray...
I await my return to michigan to get a peice of Max...although i dont have a name for my car, all you will have to remember is my license plate "PNY ETR"...
just jokin with ya man but i would love a race. I have yet to go to the track on spray. Also i have nitto's so it would be a good fair race
