New gearhead from Central CA
:smt071
what's happenin? gearhead new to this site. I built my first engine my 8th grade year: my brother coached me on transplanting an IROC TPI 305/700r-4 into my '56 chevy 4 door sedan. Since then I've done carb'd, TBI, Vortec, LT1 and aftermarket EFI swaps/upgrades.
Recently I've been getting into turbo-diesel performance since I bought one for a work truck a while ago. just barely turned up it's around 300hp/680ft-lbs and is still capable of 20mpg with mud-terrains on a 7,500lb truck...and it will beat most rice in a straight line. HAHA!
My favorite looking/bang for the buck performance car is definitely the 4th Gen TransAm. Second is the early 90's 5.0 Stangs.
So I've listed a lot of GM stuff but I am by no means brand loyal to them. I'm not even brand loyal in the domestic/import thing. Every manufacturer has made both excellent and useless...classics or new.
My job: I'm an aircraft mechanic and for now I specialize in Ag-Aircraft. We work mainly with modifying GPS and spray systems, turbine engine maintenance and some routine maintenance. We service the Ag-Operator's businesses so we don't fly or own any aircraft...we just make sure they can make money. We work on everything from military surplus helicopters transformed to spray, to purpose built crop dusting turbines airplanes that are $1 Million out the factory door. My dad started this business about 30 years ago and I have the advantage/privelege of learning under him.
I'm out. I'll put pictures in my profile eventually.
-I am the Greasemonkey.
