dana 60 is beefier then a 9 inch nobody runs em cuz their heavier then shit.

dakota rt is a 9 1/4 and isnt gonna hold very well to a big block and stiocky tires

danad 70 or a sterling 10 1/4 out of newer ford 1 tons are bullet proof too

gm corprate 14 bolt would do fine if ya could get some wheels for it

ok you should just find yourself a good used 8 3/4 rear for that dakota. the 440 wont hurt it and it beats putting a ford rear in your truck. the 8 3/4 rear is as strong as a chevy 12 blt and not as strong as a 9 in but it is a MOPAR rear end and you wont hurt in with anything that dakota can put to the ground..... john

now when they say bullet proof? Are they talking about the casing not being able to fly apart when your ruin your gears inside your rear end?

:smt071 I agree w/John, about just using a chry 8 3/4, 323's posi I've have a '69 roadrunner now for 25 yrs & have tried like hell to tear it up w/my 400-450hp 383 magnum, & haven't ever put a dent in it! I've done things to it that I would have bet that it should'a broke! Never did! It would be very easy & not to expensive! They're easy in & out " pumpkins", meaning no clip, just pull the axles & bolts around the center & out the whole thing comes! Hope this helps!

Hey
I have the same deal here, depends on power level, for up too 500 horse a 8 3/4 will work just fine, a 9 1/4 will also work thing is they never came in Dakota's, find a 8 3/4 rear from a 68-70 B body mopar (Charger,Road Runner, Coronet etc) you will need to move the spring perches, and use your old shock mounts, and move them to the 8 3/4 rear. But easy work if you have a little welder etc. Those rearends will take some abuse, i ran one for a while which I still have setup for a Dakota (maybe I can sell??) i upgraded to a Dana 60 knowing it a matter of time before 3650+lbs and 750+hp breaks a axle ans sends me into the wall at possiable 140+ mph!!!! Check out this link for great mopar info.
