1970 Ford Capri Perana V8
Officially sold by Ford South Africa to Homologate the car to race, the Perana was built by a man called Basil Green who did the conversion, which entailed fitting a custom steering rack, cutting the engine bay to accomodate a 302W which was ordered from the states with the Stage 2 muscle power pack, that was mated to a 4 speed toploader which fed power to a Borg Warned Limted slip diff, built in South Africa.
Suspension was upgraded both front and back, bigger brake calipers were used.
Power was 290 bhp and 0-100 km/h was achieved in 5.9 seconds and top speed was 230 km/h.
Handling was much better than the contempory mustangs also imported ito SA. Today these cars are very sought after, only 500 were made and the race car was incredible, ran a Gt40 motor won 10 out of 11 races in 1970....
