This Impala isn't a Muscle car... yet

1985 Impala. High mileage but it refuses to die.

Thought of this motor for it:
http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...53--P62C0.aspx

Funny thing is, I bought it used and it already has this crate 350 in it but not nearly enough power for me. Rather than deal with rebuilding the motor (it's my daily driver), I'd rather replace it. I want a new 350, a 700r4 raptor (shift kit with 3500 stall) and a 9" rear. Unfortunately, I have to deal with emmissions, which means Air injection/Reaction (AIR) and that power robbing air pump. Will have to live with headers that include those AIR tubes, just to pass emmissions in GA. Any suggestions or ideas any of you would have would be helpful. It's not a muscle car, but I want serious performance out of my "Family Sedan". Your thoughts?

But isn't the LT1 Fuel injected? Remember, I have a 1985 Impala. The only computer in my car controls the ignition. Fuel injection requires a computer to run it and complete replacement of my wiring harness, doesn't it? Also, doesn't use of the LT1 require an electronic fuel pump, unlike the manual fuel pump on the Crate 350. That isn't just a drop in and run it solution like a carburated Crate 350, is it?

white Phoenix(jerry) can help you more with that .... hes the LT1 guy ... but as far as drop and go ... you can find a low-mid mileage LT1 with wiring harness AND ECU for around 2 grand... as for the pump that shouldnt be much more difficult... and then you have a much more reliable and powerful car

I talked to two GM Performance Crate motor suppliers and they indicate that the LM1 is the only motor that will work in my car. That just can't be. I cannot except being stuck with 190HP. There has GOT to be a better way. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLP!!!!!! :smt090
