94 Engine swap

Does any want have any advice on what is involved, in swapping a 3.4 v6 in a 1994 camaro to a 396 big block. The engine a basically being given to me. I am going to build it up in my garage. Is this even a good idea? I think if i pull it off it would kick ass. I need opinions.

No way that tranny and rear end will ever handle a 396. The engine will fit, but very tightly, and you're gonna have to do some modifications to get the distributor under the lip in front of the windshield. It would honestly be cheaper to get a LT1 or LS1

I have seen a few conversions. It aint cheap lol. I believe you will need a different K-member altogether to clearence the cowl (anyone?) and the added weight will ensure you a straight-line only car. Deffinately going to have to mod the trans if the bell housing is the same to begin with? That 10 bolt (deff want posi though) will last a little while with minimum traction lol. It will break eventually. Might want to look for one that is already done or a partial conversion. Good luck.

I swapped the 3.4 to a LT1 in my camaro and I will vouche that it was very nerve wrecking! There had to be plenty of changes for the v6 to v8 conversion but the biggest problem was the wiring harness. If I do one again I will throw a carb engine in a F-body. It would be SOO much easier. :smt045

Id buy an older 1st or 2nd gen. it would be very very nerve racking and a lot of time and money, but if you ever descided to sell the car, you would have a very hard time gettin that money back. but like the others said, if you do it, you'll have to change the rearend and tranny, itd be my luck id rip em both out the first time i drove it lol. Good luck on what ever you deside thou. Heres a new suggest. 1969 chevy C-10 lots and lots of space to work with :smt023

I completley agree with everything said here. Way to much work and money to do a swap like that. Definently cheaper to buy something else.

have fun fitting the car under the windshield... we did with our 327ci motor in the 2002 maro. It barely fit but all the plastics by the windshield are gone... along with one of the windshield wipers :h

Definetly in agreement. Unless you have plenty of cash for donor cars left and right and plenty of time, then your best bet would to be to sell and buy something easier to work with. Good luck to you with whatever you choose to do. :smt023

It can be done. People on camaroz28.com have swapped in big blocks quite a few times.
