best thermostat?

hello. what is the best temperature and brand thermostat to use in a GM 350 to keep it from over heating?

my radiator hose blew off the water neck a while ago, and someone told me i should replace the thermostat and temperature sending unit.the sending unit is all mest up the guage bounces around when you hit the gas.

figure out what is supposed to be in it from the factory boucning guage means theres probaly air in the cooling system, you need to bleed it

185* if its carb w/ a 160 ive heard that id overheat, try a 185* or a 195*(probaly stock)

ehhh? you mean not heat up enough, having a 160 t-stat would mean it opens earlier rather then later thus preventing you from overheating because the coolant is cooler and taking more heat away from the engine.

im pretty new at working on cars, how do i bleed the cooling system?also, what could have caused the radiator hose to blow off the water neck?

struck thermostat or something worse
usually run it for a while at about 2200 or so with the cap off heat on high to bleed it.
(note this doesnt work for all cars)
