lt1 vs. lt4
I'm a little confused. Everything I've read about the GM LT1 to LT4 conversion kit advertises "up to" 425 hp. But, if you look at factory specs comparing the 2 engines, it lists 300hp for the LT1 and only 330hp for the LT4. Am i missing something?? @=)

thats because the heads and cam are different from the factory theres the LT4 cam then theres the LT4 "hot cam"

I believe that the heads from the LT4 conversion kit are the same as the LT4 engine from the factory. The cams are slightly different though. When they got their 425 hp number they were kind of cheating. They were using open long tube headers, no accesories, and they were using a computer system for the engine that cost around $4k (not sure exactly how much it cost, I just know it was a couple grand). So the only real difference is the cam.

They are the same heads and intake. They advertise it being capable of 425+ horsepower for a conversion kit with 1.6 rockers, the hot cam and tuning. Addin other mods like exhaust, cai, tb ,in jectors, etc should put you over 425 hp.
The factory LT4's made 335 hp and I think 350 ft lbs. in the regular Vettes and f-cars that recieved them and from what I keep reading the actual Grand Sports had a bigger cam (possibly the hot cam?), dif tuning etc. which put it north of 370 hp. Yes I have seen dyno sheets in arcticles that back that up.

Aren't the factory claims a bit conservative anyway? I know GM has a habit of doing this. Most stock LS1's dyno over 300WHP, and that puts them around 350FWHP.

Well, that's what the whole new ASE rating is about and why GMs engines are now rated higher then they thought. GM as of recent has used their own rating which was lower then ASE's. GM didn't rate the LT4 without accessories and has not done so since the 60's like anyone else. That is Gross Power Rating.
The production LT4s were rated pretty close to acurate in the regular Vettes and F-cars but the actual Grand Sport Corvette was closer to 370 hp from what I remeber reading. That was accomplished with the larger "HOT" cam.
