new Katech LS7 piston enhancements

We have been doing testing and it looks like 100 hp increases will be fairly
easy with a camshaft, headers and induction.

We will be announcing camshaft selections soon.

We have LS7 forged pistons for higher horsepower engines as well as dished
pistons for superchargers.

We are also currently machining 12.0:1 compression ratio pistons. Weighing
50 grams less than stock it reduces the stresses on the reciprocating
assembly and increases compression for more power. These are for race gas,
off-road applications. These are hard anodized over the whole piston - ring
grooves and pin bore for better durability. We can also put optional skirt
coatings on if needed. They have more valve pocket relief for bigger cams
as well.

What is the benefit to the relief between the compression ring lands?

That is a gas accumulator groove. It allows for greater volume below the top ring to reduce blow-by pressure under the ring. This helps reduce ring flutter and blowby. You may also note an oil relief below the second ring. This allows room for oil scraping by the napier 2nd ring.
