You can just swap cams but should also swap springs, 1989 should be maf so you can probaly get away without a tune doing just a cam. MYself though would pull the heads do a home port and valve job port the intake and runners and get some headers then
youll be styling and flying.

well the only problem with that .. is that im not to engine savvy yet... i know about cars.. and all that but i could take em out and work on em... so thats why i ask this.. other wise i would go all out Heads, cams, intake, pistons/rods but i cant do all that yet :smt022

buy a chilton's manual and join thirdgen.org...im assuming that you're running an L98 engine in your vette...same as the f-body 350 cars...ask on there and you'll get more info than you'd ever need/want :smt023

thanks for the try... but the L98 running in the vette has entirely different setup than the ones in the Camaros... i just looked on the thirdgen.org site and nothing on there gave me any Idea... because it was all so different from what the vette has/uses ...

a small blocks a small block
tpi is tpi
the engines are the same except for a few minor minor details like exhaust manifolds, the heads are diffrent being the vette heads are alumunium and the 3rg gen are steel but the motors are the same they run, comeapart and gp backtogether the same.
Any 3rd gen mods will work on the vette (except of model specific parts, exhaust gears ect.

Were the Vettes back then roller cams? If so that makes the break in part easy since you don't need to do much of one. What size cam is it, durration and lift? It isn't hard as long as there is room to work in a Vette and I can find that out easily if you guys don't already know. I have done uh, a few in other vehicles and it is no big deal as long as the cam won't be to big for you existing valve train. Most likely you will want to change springs which you can do with the heads on car if you have a compressor to hold the valves up. Since you will need springs you will need keepers and don't skimp on anything. Don't forget you will need intake gaskets and heads too if you don't have a compressor and for anything else in the way. There is more to it but it is really not that big of and deal and as long as the cam isn't too big your computer shoulhd compensate enough to make it drivable but proper tuning is the right way to go. Oh yeah, do you have new lifters? Also you will at least have to check you rockers for exessive wear and if you could afford it go with nice aluminum roller rockers so free up parasitic drag. Before you go any further, how many miles are on the bearings is also important since any higher lift cam is going to put more stress on things. If you aren't making good pressure wait until you can afford at least minor rebuild.
