on a old school sbc ID rather pull the heads to change springs, extra 30min and no F'in around

This is just my 2 cents worth. I have switched cams about 5 times in my 440, always upgraded. You learn from your mistakes , i have learned a lot lol.
main things
1) springs- make sure they can handle the added lift, different springs are rated for different size lifts. It is a good idea to switch springs anyway, high rev just once can float a valve .
2) pistion to valve clearance , is there enough clearance for that new lift.
3) i allways like to pull the heads at least on one side to get the proper top dead center, and than degree the cam in the proper centerline, you can just line the dots up on the gears, but go the extra.
very little exp. on the chevy motors on what they will accept ,sorry.

So you have a new cam but you, and you want to know if you need anything else to slap it in? Well how high of a lift does the cam have? and whats the duration on the cam? If the lift on the cam is pretty high, you might need to do some head work on your heads. Enless you already have some high performance heads. :smt023

CAM SWAP
KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU ARE LIMITED IN FLOW WITH THOSES HEADS.IF YOU GO WITH A LARGER CAM HAVE THE THE HEADS REDONE.RECONDITIONED AND DECK THEM TO GET THE COMPRESSION RATIO UP. ADD NECK DOWN SWIRL POLISHED VALVES AND HAVE THE BOWL HOGGED. MATCH PORT THE EXHAUST BUT LEAVE THE INTAKE SIDE ALONE. THE ROUGH SURFACE IN THE INTAKE HELPS FUEL ATOMIZE BETTER. DO NOT GO TO BIG ON THE CAM BECAUSE YOUR INTAKE COULD LIMIT YOU. MY FRIEND ROBS VETTE RUNS 11 99'S WITH 273 GEARS A 3500 STALL. WHEN WE STEPPED UP TO THE LARGER CAM ALMOST 600 LIFT (KEEP IN MIND HE HAS A 383) WITH THE PORTED STOCK HEADS HE LOST ALMOST 90 FT LBS OF TORQUE @ THE REAR WHEELS. IF YOU NEED MORE LIFT LATER YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE THE ROCKER RATIO. GOOG LUCK

Heads & cam package will pull from 2,600 – 6,800 RPM and should make *410 to 430 RWHP with 36/42 lb. injectors, 58 MM T.B. or Monoblade, GOOD tuning, etc. This will idle similar to the GM847 but make about 10 more HP at peak and starts making HP sooner than the GM847. Requires 4.10 gears & 3,000 (or more) stall for best results.
LE3 Heads consist of:
Larger valve seats installed in Heads
2.05/1.60 Valves
Comp Bee Hive Springs
Titanium Retainers & 10° Locks
208 CC Intake Port
Milling
Cleaning
Assembly
Flow About 275/195
this is the H/C i plan on doing as soon as i can. with the cam that comes with it similar to the GM847 will i have to swap pushrods? while im doing this i plan on changing injectors, rockers, lifters, and i figured i would swap bearings and pushrods but i wasnt sure if i could buy the stock length ones or if i could just get a set of stock length hardened ones.

you can use to stock size push rods... too bad you dont have a 94 LT1 where hardened pushrods came stock. But even if i did a cam swap i would put in new ones. Hell they are just over $100... also dont forget to replace the pushrod guide plates. Dont forget to throw in a new timing chain...preforably a double roller...
Also do not get self alligning rockers for the LE3 setup. Becuase its a higher reving setup you dont want them. They suck at high rpms. So stick with NSA roller rockers and a nice setof guide plates...
The LE3 setup is very nice not to mention a hell of a deal. But you have to remember your rear end isnt going to last long with it. If there wasnt so many other things you had to upgrade i would have this package right now... but college limits my funding... good luck with the setup.

well actually thats the reason i dont have it right now is because im in college and because im working from back to front. ill be putting in a 12 bolt with 4.10's a new driveshaft new suspension and some other stuff like a 58mm TB over the summer. even if the 12 bolt doesnt happen over the summer it will happen and then ill be putting in the LE3.

good idea.. also a stock LT1 shaft can handle the power but i would get a LS1 driveshaft... light weight, semi cheap, and strong enough to support your setup.
