starting issues?

hey guys i have a 3.4 in my 95 camaro and ever since i got it ive been having starting problems. It will crank but wont kick over after 2 or three turns it will eventually start. In an effort to solve this problem i replaced plugs, wires, and got a optima red top, these things have helped but havent solved it. I'm thinking a starter? what do you guys think? Some people have told me the possibilty of an alternator but if the alternator was bad would the car ever start? i always thought the alternaor charges the battery but maybe im wrong. thanks in advace for any advice or help. i appreciate it.
peace -ryan

1. if you can hear the solenoid click then the starters locking up

2. if it was the altnerator* then you could jump start it and it would be fine but as soon as you shut if off, it wouldnt crank back up. if you think thats it then check it with a voltmeter, it should be pushin 13.2+ volts

3. Two random problems ive had in my buick is the top of my casing was dirty and i was losing current threw the top of the battery so i had to wash the top w/ baking soda and water

The other problem i had was the ground wire was bad.

Does the car turn over and just not fire or does it not even turn over? I wasn't really sure from your post.
If it won't turn over when hot, check into the starter and also check your ground cable. I have had numerous starters that would fail due to heat soak problems. Most of these have been Chevy's (1 V-6 Regal) where the exhaust runs below the starter. A spot on the starter armature will develop a short.

If the car will turn over but not fire, I would check into the ignition module and also check to make sure that the solonoid or relay for the fuel pump is working properly.
