Turboing my sbc 350

hey guys. i just wanted to know what you all think on this subject. I am turboing my 350 sbc, but i have a dilemma: whether to put a t66 on, or an hx40. I have heard that the hx40 has an internal wastegate that is a little small for a motor that size, which makes controlling boost difficult, but i have also heard that the hx40 is more reliable than the T66. They are both rated at about the same horsepower, but the t66 is 66mm, where the hx40 is 58mm-62mm. the smaller wheel diameter will allow me to spool up my turbo a little sooner, but not much. If any of you have turbo'd your vehicle, or if you have knowledge of this topic, please help me. I want to make about 420-450 hp at a low boost, with 72cc sportsman heads, an Edelbrock 750 double-pumper, a new cam, 3" exhaust, and turbo headers. thx a lot. Also, could i go with the HX40, and somehow change the internal wastegate so that i can more easily control boost?

what do the compressor maps look like?

Yes, the HX40 is an internal wastegated 60mm compressor, a lot of cummins guys use that as a small upgrade over the stock HX35's. They usually have them modified by shops also because the stock shafts aren't the strongest. Don't know anything about the T66 other than what you said about the 66mm compressor.

a very good, quick read is Maximum Boost by Corky Bell; takes you through EVERYTHING you need to consider when you're building a turbo system. it's very in-depth but it's super easy to follow and understand.

t66 is stronger and more popular. You'll need around 15psi with a turbo to make that power.

id need to look at the maps again, but i think you could get away with a k27 (borg kkk) most relaiabe turbos imho, it woul;d do 425-450 anything over that would be pushing it though, it would offer quick spool for sure though.
