Flowmaster 40 series

Ok, I'm looking to replace my resonator with a flowmaster 40 series "original." I go to Ramchargers and ask the guy if I can replace my resonator. They tell me that they don't have a 40 series "original" in 3" center center because they don't make'em anymore. I'm thinking in my head, what the F#@#$!!! Why wouldn't they make'em in 3" anymore, that's what most of the older cars go with and new. He tells me because the mustang doesn't go with 3" that is why. He said that the delta flows have 3", but those aren't as loud so I said hell with that. I'm going to call flowmaster and see if they have 3". This really pisses me off! Why the hell wouldn't they make 3" fitment anymore :smt017

:smt076 :smt076 :smt076 :smt076 :smt076 :smt076 :smt076

All I want to do is replace the resonator on my loudmouth with a 40 series, I thought that would be possible! :piss

Ive heard flowmaster's arent very good... at least thats what the guys over on ls1tech say..

Dont know what the issues are... maybe poor construction?

All i know is when i re-do my system it will be stainless with probably magnaflow mufflers. (the thing i hate more than anything is oxidation on steel )

Yeah, people on LS1tech say they flow worth of shit and I believe them, but I'd rather have a good sounding exhaust rather than a raspy one when I switch to headers. But, thats just my opinion :smt023

The problem with Flowmasters is, with a true tuned exhaust system, you need to have the correct measurement to the end of the inlet side of the Flowmaster and not on the other side...then you have the muffler chamber behind the end of the "collector".

An exhaust systems "collector" has an ideal length. If for some technical reason you cannot hit that length (rules say you have to run a muffler), you then need to make sure the "collector" is a double multiple of ideal...let's say ideal is 13". If you need to incorporate a muffler you might try 26...if you can't make that fit then 52 is next best.

The best mufflers we've found are the Dynomax Bullets....measure it just like part of the collector.
