Removing side molding peice on 4th gen F-Body doors

alright so i know alot of people remove this stupid little body molding peice but how did you go about getting it off the best? I hate mine as they are discolored and look like crap. The smaller parts that are not on the door will be easier but how about the big one...

then after i get it off i have a good adhesive remover...then i guess to make it look good give it a good polish and wax...

This is the part im talking about... the red piece above the TRANS AM

What i have read on common auto body restoration and several auto body forums is that you take a thin screw driver wrapped in cloth tape (hockey stick tape i guess) and try and get behind it to pop it off, personally i think you would be better off using a dull blade (butter knife), then you have to polish, wax and buff.

I heated mine up first with a hair dryer! Then I used fishing line behind it and worked it along s-l-o-w-l-y heating as I went. The heat makes the glue a little easier to come off. Wait until you see all the dirt and shit that collects behind there...... :}}}

alright so heat and floss or fishing line... okydoky...i takt it when you guys did it that you moved the floss between the door paint and the tape shit... not between the tape shit and the stripe thing...

also what did you guys do to remove the tape or residue left over?

The glue is like sticky 2-way tape and some may be left behind. I used the blow dryer to heat it up and pulled it off pretty clean...whatever was left I used peanut butter to remove as I was not too hip on putting chemicals on the ride. Takes a bit more elbow grease and patience but works!!
