Timing Help

my car needs to be timed. i personally know nothing about timing a car, but i have a friend who knows how to time. what i need to know is:

on a 87-93 5.0 mustang motor, what is the spark order?
where is the timing indicator thing on the flywheel or w/e.
what is the motor supposed to be timed at?
and im pretty sure on motorcycles, you can advance the timing to where you need to run a higher octane gas to prevent detonation, and that increases power, but can you do that on a 5.0? if so, what would the timing be to need to run 93 octane gas?

is there anything else im missing?

the firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. the timing mark is on the harmonic balancer, which is on the front of the engine attached to the crank. it will usually have a line with TDC (top dead center) next to it, then degree increments up to 8* advance or so. as for the rest of it, someone else is going to have to chime in because this is not my area. hope this helps a little.
