3.73 gears

how hard is it installing 3.73 gears into a 8.8 rear end on a 1991 Ford Mustang 5.0L LX Hatchback

you know how to check the lash? and have the instruments to do such?

if not take it to a shop. or read a TON before you dive in.

yea you have to set back lash and be able to read a good gear wear pattern and shim the gears correctly... not to mention having the proper tools...

just get it done by a pro

take it to a shop... im doing the same thing with a 8.5 D44 and i know im not gonna open that bitch up myself.. to much shit i dont have the tools for

i figured i was just makin sure that i should go that route. gears make a big difference dont they?

yah they can really wake up a car. if ur goin from 2:73's then it will feel like 30 more hp. if your goin form 323 there will be a nice diff but 355 to 373 will be the smallest gain cuz its only 18 more teeth

my car has 2.73. i drove an 84 camaro i was thinkin about pickin up while i work on my stang, it had bigger gears and i could easily tell so i decided that the mustang is gettin them.

if its a manual car, i would go to 4:11's that thing will wake up like crazy, but 373s are good none the less

gotta beware about your driving habits though, if you are a highway cruiser you may not want to go higher than 3.73s

i do travel the highway occasionally, i was told that 4.10 gears may be a bit too much if i use the highway, plus i was thinkin about joining u guys on may 13th. i am new but u all seem cool. hopefully by then my exhuast and my 5 spd will be in, i just need the 5sp conversion kit, headers and x-pipe.
