Traction

I've been reading article after article about where to start on our suspension.

We are planning on 28x10 street slicks for traction, but I don't see it fixing the problem. So the question is: Traction bars or a torque bar from Maximum Motorsports?

If you havn't caught it yet, it's an '87 Mustang Convertable. The problem? No matter how easy we roll into the throttle, the tires light up. 40 mph - hit it, the car JUMPS sideways & the tires go up in smoke.

We've already got 90/10's up front and 50/50's in the rear. Have any of you tried either the traction bars or the torque bar?

if u got a good amount of power,you ll always prob have some sort of traction difficulties,you could try traction bars,it may cut down the breaking loose a little bit, if u can,what about wider tires,more tread equals more bite

your problem is wheel hop... its in the suspension not the tires... what happens is the tires get traction, suspension compresses, and unloads causing the tire to momentarly loose a little traction (lower coefficient of friction) and then the tires just spin. You need to keep the suspension from "hopping". Both your options are good. I obviously went for a Torque arm on my TA because it is the stock setup. I built a fully a fully adjustable torque arm and it was by far the best mod i did to my car... allows my power adder mods to get traction :smt023

I hate the thought of tubbing it... but we might have to I guess.

need to do the suspesnion, upper and lower bars, also some stickie tires would help.

wont help anything... you need to get your suspension right before you go for bigger tires

What (if any) benefit is there to adjustable control arms? Will they help my cause at all? And, if I use adjustable lowers with the torque bar from MM?

That torque bar is kinda pricey, has anyone out there ever re-engineered their own?

Of course MM & all the others are all saying "Ours is the only way to go..." And they point out all the pro's to their stuff, and the con's to their competitors stuff. This is where it gets a bit un-nerving. Everyone says that their product will cure the wheel hop issue. Who do I believe?

the factory parts are stamped steel, this is fine for a stock power car but you start throwing more power at it and u have some issues. think of it as a rubber band. when you gas it it pulls back the rubber band untill it wont hold any more then it unleashes it casueing the suspesnion to unlad which = wheel hop
any of the tubulaor aftermarket parts will deffinatly help you issue
iH ad a 3rd gen I made new lcas out of 2x2 boxed tubing. car rode like shit but it hooked up great.

Just to try & help a little we did box in the control arms. Don't know if it was a good idea or bad, but we just thought that it might help. If it did, it's not enough.

I'm just wondering if the adjustable lower control arms are worth the money, or just get non-adjustables.

adjustable is cool if your gonna adjut them yuou can set the pinion anlge and center the rear end. I have adjustable on my car
I centered the rear end but thats all i ever did with it
