Ford 289, looking to stoke and overbore it to a 331
Hey guys, I have a 289 block in my 67 stang, I started a thread previously asking about different engine options, but I think that i've decided to stay with the stock block. That being said, I was looking at possibly getting a 331 stroker kit for it. I was also reading the thread on here about the guy asking about the 347 stroker kit, but I've heard bad things about them and I'd really like to have the motor be reliable enough to drive everyday. So does anyone have a good place to get a 331 stroker kit? I pretty much wanna make as much power as possible and still have it be reliable (and not spend a ton of money!). Thanks for the input, Mike.

Well stroker kits are amazing, produce a lot of low end torque. Which is healthy for your 0-60 ft times as long as you can plant it.
Unfortunately i do not know enough about ford motors to tell you anything more than that. Im sure someone on here does though. Good luck to you!
Note: I would not try to take a 289 to a 351, it just seems like you would be boring too much over to achieve that kind of displacement.

Yeah, from what I've heard, stroking it to a 347 is about as far as you can go. You CAN stroke it to a 351, but I really don't feel like replacing parts every weekend. I dunno, I want this thing to sound nasty too, so I'm thinking of going with a gear drive timing set and a set of dual flowmasters with dumps right before the quarter panels.
**Also, does anyone know anything about like the Auburn Gears or anything like that? The reason I ask is because if I burnout, only the one tire spins, and I want them to be locked like my cobra so that if I stomp on it, BOTH tires will spin. Just wanted to know the easiest and least expensive way to accomplish this.

i saw something on horsepower tv about a kit to turn rear ends into positrack.
look into that. that would be cheaper than getting a whole new rear end. unless you want different gearing.

If you can tell me what rear you have in your car right now i can probably help you with the differential posi issues.

It's just the stock 8.8 rear that came in the 67 v8 stangs. I went ahead and ordered that kit. The exact same kit off of probe industries website was going for like $1100, so at least I saved myself a little money.
