1967 Mustang, want input on engine options???

Hey guys, I'm gonna be pulling my lil 289 out of my '67 pretty soon here, and I want to go with something that'll really make her dance when i say giddy up. Something more to the tune of say about 400+bhp N/A? Any opinions, tips, or engine suggestions? I'm really thinking of going with some kind of stroker motor, but I'm not really sure what I wanna do engine wise. I want something that's really gonna make some power, but at the same time be able to run on pump gas. Any and all input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks, this has got some pretty good stuff. At least I'll have an idea of what to shoot for now. Not quite sure if I wanna go with a complete crate engine or not yet, but this sure gives me a pretty good idea of what I need to do...

well if your gonna work with the 289 punch it out to 306, agressive cam etc..or if your lookin an honest 400 at the wheels then look at 347 or if u dare 351. i really dont know the current state of the 289 but if its in good shape make it your starting point and go from there.

289's, even though they are small, in them 65 and 66 mustangs, they are pretty good. i personally prefer the humungo 428 super cobra jets.

351. Hands down.

Forged rotating assembly, good set of head/cam/carb package and youll be dancing down the track very fast.

That's exactly the way that I'm leaning right now, cuz I have a buddy of mine that has a ton of 351 blocks that I'm sure that I could get my hands on. As of right now though, I'm thinking of going with a 351windsor block, stroking it to a 408 or 418, and then yeah, like you said, a good set of heads, an aggressive cam, and a big old double pumper carb.

MOTOR FOR YOUR PONEY

IT IS POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE 454 CID OUT OF A TALL DECK 351W. CUBS ARE THE WAY TO GO. IF YOU GO FOR THE SMALLER 347 STROKER, MAKE SURE YOU USE AN ALUMINUM HEAD LIKE AN AFR OR A DART PRO 1. IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE 11:1 COMPRESSION AND STILL WORK FINE OFF OF PUMPED GAS. LEAN TOWARD A SOLID LIFT ROLLER OR A MECHANICAL FLAT TAPPET IF YOU WANT TO MAKE POWER INTO THE 6000 RANGE. I BUILD THESE MOTORS FOR A LIVING. IF YOU GO TO ACA-PERFORMANCE.COM YOU WILL SEE A 500+ HP ONE ON DISPLAY. ERSON CUSTOM GRINDS OUR CAMS SO WHEN YOU ARE READY, GIVE ME YOUR MOTOR SPECS, CAR WEIGHT AND GEAR RATIO AND I WILL HOOK YOU UP WITH THE PERFECT CAM . THE BEST PART ABOUT THE STROKER IS TORQUE. IF YOU BUILD IT CORRECTLY, YOU WILL HAVE A TIRE FRIER THAT PULLS LIKE A MONSTER UPSTAIRS.
