i got a 408w in my 66 and it has torq up the @$$ and tons of top end aswell, i pull 8000 rpms out of it. it barely fits in a 65-66 but in a 67 you shouldnt have a problem. i think the curb weight of a 66 is about 2800lbs added with a 500hp motor that sucker flies. in still working on the car. it has a 3.00 rear with a built c4, posi rear. 10.5 compression so pump gas is no problem. i ran a 12.3 quarter spinning tires like crazy. with some slicks and and a 3.73 or 4.11 i could easily nock a full second off that.

Re: 1967 Mustang, want input on engine options???

[quote="mustang196718"]Hey guys, I'm gonna be pulling my lil 289 out of my '67 pretty soon here, and I want to go with something that'll really make her dance when i say giddy up. Something more to the tune of say about 400+bhp N/A? Any opinions, tips, or engine suggestions? I'm really thinking of going with some kind of stroker motor, but I'm not really sure what I wanna do engine wise. I want something that's really gonna make some power, but at the same time be able to run on pump gas. Any and all input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Since I've been working on mostly 67, 68, and 69 Mustangs, I've always been subject to the 351 Cleveland and the 351 Windsor Engines. They're both tight fitting in the engine compartment, and the plugs are sometimes a pain to get out when changing them, but the effort in building up the engine is worth the trouble. I've even seen one with a 390 in it that put out a lot of power, but now you're talking about an old engine that seems to be harder to find. These three engines will not require any of the newer smog devices that the newer engines have. Something else you might want to consider is changing the gears in the rear end. If you friend has a large number of 351 engines around, you might want to experiment on it and see what you get when your done. Just a thought to pass on..
