347 Stroker for a 5.0
Sup guys,
i was wondering what do you guys think about a 347 stroker for mustang...don't bother, hell yea, whats a good kit ect.
I am getting ready for a rebuild and i want to do a little research first. Does anybody Know what a good kit is and how much, where to get it from, what i will need. I also wanted to find out what are some good pistons i keep on hearing that most of the stroker kits come shitty pistons.
--Thanks :smt023

Well....I know very little about stuff for mustangs.. but a few friends of mine have 347's in their 5.0's and they run damn good.
I would recommend taking alook over at like corral.net or one the 'stang boards and chances are youll find some good deals and alot of good advise :smt045

i second lookin into mustang forums. my friend Boom had a 347 stroker in his '68 and this thing hauled, wasn't super fast but it would light 'em up and move pretty quick, til he blew the motor up 3 times. he said the only thing that wasn't good in the kit, sh*t i don't remember which part now, not sure if it was the crank or cam. i'll get a hold of him and see if he could give me some info for ya.

Ive heard that stroker kits do a good job producing low end torque.

One of my friends have a stroker kit on his. It sounded friggin insane! Good kit too, he had it built for a blower application, without the blower he had 350hp to the ground, that was of course that was with a cam, trick flow heads and an intake manifold too. I say hell yeah!

if it was me i would buy a dss 308 really, you dont need a stroker, my roommate has a dss 308 fms e-cam, afr 165's and a holley systemax 2 intake manifold, and makes almost 400 hp and 440 tq to the ground with 10.5:1 com[ression ration, and i run the same combo with a larger cam and heads, and make about 410 hp, and 465 tq so a stroker really isnt needed. just my .02

if you got some extra loot you can tune a 5.0 to 638rwhp. my friend's got a 90 or 92 gt, had the block custom built and all motor (thru a tremec t5 and posi rear) is hittin 638 to the wheels. as per the 347 stroker they are awesome engines more race oriented tho. my friend had one and kept blowing piston rings and head gaskets. he told me to let you know your best bet is go with a 302 w/a .030 overbore, aluminum heads, and ceramic headers (if poss. anything that'll let the car breath is good.) and if you wanna from there, you could bolt on a s/c or spray it (<-easy HP). good luck :smt023
