Try spraying carb cleaner around the base were the intake meats the heads. If it bogs down its an intake leak.

When using that method it will run smoother, via pluging the leak for that second.

ACTUALLY IT WILL BOG BECAUSE IT PULLS THE CLEANER INTO THE CYLINDERS AND DOESN'T IGNITE AS WELL AS FUEL. THATS WHY WHEN SPRAYING TO CLEAN OUT AN INTAKE OR THROTTLE BODY YOU HAVE TO HOLD RPM MUCH HIGHER THAN IDLE SO YOU DON'T STALL THE CAR. NOT THAT I WOULD KNOW BEING A MECHANIC AND ALL.

Well theres one other problem that I've been seeing on the 99-04 SOHC Motors that came with the PI plastic intakes....

They start to develop hair line cracks in the right front corner....

Not sure if it's got anything to do with you're problem, just throwing my 2 cents in... just tryin ta help...

Well, something like that could be a number of things. best bet have a mechanic (perferably someone you know) give 'er a listen. if ya don't know anyone best bet would be, find a local shop, nothing mainstream, just a family shop. stop in have reg. main. done there. bring some brews down and chat with 'em just before close. you'll make a few friends that have the knowledge to help ya with any problem ya might have.

Also, my first car was a '86 mustang (4-banger, auto), my fourth car was a '89 mustang (4-banger, man), my sixth car was/is (resto-ing) a '66 mustang (200ci I6, C4). I recommend them as long as you have patients and some extra loot for when the norm FORD sh*t goes down.

BTW, my '66 is gettin a custom 351w, EFI'ed, twin turbo'd and spray'd. (in like 50 years or so)

wow, this thread it weird. Jumps around alot.... so given that. Its my turn at it.... 4.6 sohc or dohc have a natural tick to them. But youre saying it just started. 2001 Mustang V8's used coil on plug theory. The coil packs as they are called often ( not sure if i can swear on here or not yet ) crap the bed. This would lead to a mis in a cylinder and make the engine shake like youre describing.

Also someone mentioned the plastic intakes, starting in 1996 and going until mid 2002 there is a recall on these plastic intakes, if you have a crack or have paid to have it replaced they will reimburse you. You will know if there is a crack though. Most of the time its in the middle of the intake just above the alternator.

So yeah..... thats my 2 cents.

Oh and where can i find a 6spd transmission for super cheap that might bolt up to the above mentioned cheap junkyard combo.

Shooting for approx 350-400hp. Machining the engine or stroking is not out of the question either.

Just saw a t56 with low miliage in Cruise News for $1400...
