excatly my point as well, i know from my own experience that there is a lot of $$ that go into building up both a fast motor and a reliable one. the other point i was trying to make was that if the car came with a 289 to begin with, a 302 is a direct bolt in and there are tons of parts and things you can do to a 302.

personally, I want to forget about the motor, once it has been bolted in and setup. i want it to be as relaible as my daily driver (get in it, turn the key, and drive it).

Right there's pretty much exactly what I want the car to be. Reliable enough to be a daily driver, but still makes enough power to run low 13's or even high 12's if it wanted to. Pretty much just enough to keep up with some of the newer toys that are out.

Remember, the smaller the engine, the less power you need to make it move fast. I would not go any larger then the 302. On recommendation, I kept my 68 mustang a six. There are so many mods out there for smaller engines. Better fuel consumption and you can keep up with those stupid imports. I have a 200 I6 and when the mods are completed, I would wager money I will beat a majority of the large V8s.

If my buddy had it, it would probably end up with a BBC LOL

I'd spring for a nice LS2 motor, nothing wakes up a Mustang like some good old fashioned Chevy power

By buddy Scotty has a Fox Body Mustang with a big inch Chevy on the gun, it ran 8.75 @ 155 mph with a 1.29 60 ft. this past weekend...

My little brother is building a 540 Ford stroker big block for his 67 Mustang Coupe...

There is no replacement for displacement...

Yeah, stroking a 351 is a great idea, but don't max it out. A buddy of mine has an 88 GT with a 351 stroked to 408 and he's making about 430 RWHP and 426 FT/LBS with AFR heads and a demon carb. You throw a Kenne Bell on that and ad a SMALL shot of N2O and you can, with no prob, hit 550-600 at the wheels.

Awesome times, but I don't agree with crossing motors like that.
