300C really don't look like it's predecessors. Theres a guy I know with an old ass dodge 300 and compare one to the other, there are next to no similarities, other than a long ass hood. Plus, and I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way, I don't think those multi-displacement motors are going to last long. I mean, you're moving at a decent rate of speed with half the motor off and thanall of a sudden, BANG, the other half of the motor kicks back in? I think there's gonna be a few set backs before they really get that thing moving problem free.

Thunderbird, Ford car. If I do remember, that would be the first of the "retro" cars for the 2000's.

Mini Cooper. I will give that one the best retro award, but it's a little hunk of crap. They are so small and uncomfortable, you can't put people in the back and you have this awful amount road noise coming in on you.

What's going on with pontiac? As far as I knew, they were done. GM 86'd the the f-bodies, no more camaro (chevy), TA or firebird (pontiac) and as far as I knew, besides a minivan, pontiac had nothing. Maybe I missed the news or something, I've been busy working. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot about the Solstice. Another pretty cool car. Aren't they talkling about throwing a LS1 or something in that thing like next year or something? That would be absolutely disgusting! I would def buy one of those and I'm not really a chevy guy! LOL!!
It doesn't get anymore "retro" than a PT. It was inspired by the Fords of the 40's. It is probably the most "retro" next to the VW Beetle and one of the cars that started the whole "retro" thing.

One thing about retro cars is that most are popular the first couple of years and then the sales die down. Another thing about retro cars is when it is time to update or redesign them they usually aren't as popular as their previous body style. Everyone can talk all they want about the PT but it is the only car Chrysler has that has an increase of sales over last year. Also, over one million PT's have been sold.

Believe me, I own a PT and it is far from a muslce car.

They may have been the first one to market, but the PT Cruiser is what really did it IMO.

The Beetle had it's concept debut at the Detroit NAIAS in 1994 I believe, it his showrooms as a 1998 model. The PT Cruiser was right behind it.

As much as I'm sick of the neon station wagon, they did sell a boatload of them and for the right price. Price is where it's at, that is why the copycat HHR will sell very well. GM is finally figuring it out... :D

Buick has come a long way, their 2006/7 lineup is nice. They are shedding that old fogy image they had for so many years, the G-body not withstanding...

HELL YEAH!!!

Slim, you do have a point, but Chrysler had to design a car after the Fords of the 40's. Seems like a little bit of cheating to me. I understand something along the lines of the CEO (Iacocca) used to be part of ford or something like that, but I personally frown upon one manufacturer using anothers car's to design one of their own. Moreso, how Chevy completely cheated with the Prism (Toyo Corolla) and (as much as I like the car) the Dodge Stealth a.k.a. Mitsu 3000GT.

I hadn't realized that the PT was modeled after anything in paticular to begin with, so thank you for informing me where the PT's roots came from.

When I think of new Buick i thik of heated washer fluid. nothing says old fogey like heated washer fluid. Making a Buick version of the Sky/Solstice would help Buick's image emensely.

As far as the PT, it wouldn't even necessarily be a 40's Ford, IMO. All the car companies had fat fendered sedans. Wasn't the Prowler retro before the new Bettle was retro? the Prowler has a good early 30's car look to it.

You don't think that all car manufactors cheat? Remember when Chrysler made the first Cuda/Challenger? It was a copy of the Firebird/Camaro. The HHR is a copy the PT.

Cheating as you say goes on all the time. Now most of it is called brand sharing. Mercury are copies of Fords. GM does carbon copies of all of it's products. The Chrysler 300 is the same as a Charger or Magnum. It cost too much to develop different platfroms for every car. Toyota uses it with the Camry/Lexus ES350. Nissan uses it with the 350Z/Infinity G35. This is something that will continue forever.
