good gearhead reading material
just got a couple new books I'm pretty stoked about getting through. -1st is "How to Build High Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s" by Will Handzel. also covers the 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 truck engines. It goes through:
*gen-III architecture and design
*head, cam and intake combos
*factory and aftermarket perf parts
*parts interchange
*engine removal sequences for f-bodys, vettes and trucks
-2nd is 'How to Weld Damn Near Anything' from Monster Garage. flipping through and looking at different sections, there is an amazing amount of usefull and good information, team that up with a bunch of practice and you'll be welding on a professional level.
-3rd is a Muscle Car History book by Steve Statham, "Nova SS: Nova and ChevyII 1962-1979". interesting to me because I have a 62 Nova, I like to find out what my car used to be, what it was marketed as and how it performed and was accepted(or not) back in its' day.
so far the gen-III chevy book seems like a very good overall information source, introduction to design and a strong starting point for a performance build.
Now I'd like to find a good gen-III book that has more in depth tear down and reassembly procedures for a performance build; including the little random tricks unique to each engine, torque specs, assembly recommendations and things to not do...I like learning from other people's mistakes a lot more than learning from my own!
