My chat with a Birmingham Police Officer about Auto Euro
Just wanted to let you guys know about the awesome conversation I had with one of the police officers yesterday as I hung out with the MiFbody member that got hit turning onto Woodward (see the MiFbody pics thread that Angie posted). It was that female Birmingham cop that we all see out there all the time. Anyway, she was being really friendly while we all waited for the right juristiction (sp?) cop to show up (16 and Woodward is an overlap of 3 townships apparently depending on the corner) and we were chatting about Friday and Saturday cruise nights and I was bluntly asking her if all the stuff so far has them annoyed with the cruisers or if they're still cool with all of us being out there, that type of stuff. She mentioned the piss squirters and about the broken window at Hawthornes, and then she also mentioned that at one of their last meetings they had at the police department, they were finally given the green light to ticket people parked at Hawthornes without any warning about loitering!!!! because apparently Hawthornes put up signs saying no loitering or customers only or something like that? Anyway, I had mentioned previously in our conversation that I always hang out with a group from Automotive Europe and that we make it a point to try and be as respectful as possible, that we even clean up the parking lot of trash when we leave, and that we always go there just to socialize amongst eachother and watch the cars go by.. She said "Someone at the meeting asked about Auto Euro, actually, and the Commander replied and told the officer that Auto Europe's cruisers are always well behaved and a very quiet crowd" and that they have absolutely nothing against us parking and hanging out there. I just thought you guys would like to know what the Birmingham police department was saying about it. :smt023 :smt023

woo! yeah I was at hawthorne the other night and a cop showed up asking if people were parked on the side lot. She (the same chick officer you talked to, meissen). They can only ticket people if they are parked on the side lots, not that front one where everyone usually parks.

I was parked in the side parking lot of Hawthornes next to Auto Zone on Saturday. A cop came in and told us not to park in the side lots but we are allowed to park in the row in front of the stores along the street. He was very nice and didn't give us any trouble at all even though my sister was parked in a handicapped spot.

Brian,
Very cool. Good to know firsthand that we're all ok parking there. At least we respect our (SEMB's) authorization to park there and clean up, etc, unlike the Honduh owners at Hawthorne who just trash everything and act like....err....rather ARE immature children :h

Great read, thanks for posting this.
It is a perfect example of how police officers are not the idiots many claim them to be.
If you act like an adult and respect people around you they don't hassle you... kind of like Mt Clemens cruise nights :smt023
