The new Corvette Blue Devil is no longer going to have this name, but it will go on production with the name of Sting Ray. It will be priced at $100,000 and will feature a 7.0 liter V8 engine delivering around 600 hp. The new model will go on sale early 2007.
Autoweek reports that the rumored super Corvette (besting even the Corvette Z06, by adding a supercharger to the 7.0-liter V-8 to create something in the area of 600+ horsepower, which would appear to be the next battleground area given the recent reports of the 2008 Viper and it’s McLaren-tuned engine) will get the hallowed “Sting Ray” name if and when it comes to market. Autoweek’s sources have indicated that the name will indeed be something with a connection to Corvette lore–but “Sting Ray” might not be the only one. Originally the name of the top-secret project was “Blue Devil,” in order to get the attention of GM CEO and Duke University grad Rick Wagoner. Contrary to Autoweek’s report, there are a few people at GM who believe the “Mako Shark” name might be the right fit for the forthcoming super car from Chevrolet.
