Oil Change shops..

Well being lazy i took my Cavalier to Uncle eds Oil shop for an oil change. Every time i am amazed at the things i am told. For entertainment purposes i play along usually.. When i pull in I tell them i just want an Oil change with standard 5w-30 and no other services.

the fun begins.. He looks at my Tach i have mounted on the dash and asks "do you have NOS in this thing?" I then give him a slightly funny look and say "No...?" He leaves for now. When they are finished draining the oil they start telling me about the benefits of synthetic oil and make a strong reccomendation to use it. "sir, last time it was suggested to switch to synthetic because of your high mileage, I am going to strongly suggest you use it today" I look at him and say, "nope thats ok just the standard mineral oil is fine." then he trys to come back "but sir.." I quickly interupt and say "NO".. he leaves for now..

Come back with 2 oil filter in his hand.. a Mobil 1 and a standard looking shop filter. "Here are your choices in filters, We have the 'standard shop filter' that is 86% effective and then we have the mobil 1 which is 99.5% effective. The mobil one uses syntheic paper and helps with oil pressure and can increase engine performance" Being a nice guy i say " well 78% of statistics are made up on the spot, but anyhow, I'll just go with the standard filter" He returns with, "Here just hold these two, you can tell the mobil one is much heavier... yada yada.." I just say "nope just the regular one please" (i dont even think he understood my statistics joke.. didnt even phase him). Then he trys selling me elventy billion other things.. I just repeat "No.. No.. No.. many times" 75 bucks for a coolant change??? holy crap! Good thing i do that myself.. haha If i didnt know anything about cars i coulda walked outta there with a $200+ bill... man.. im sure they sucker people into everything just by saying its reccomended

Its not like this is new news to anyone, i just think its a riot. The explanations are my favorite part.. when they have to come up with stuff on thier own and not from the sales pitch it gets funny..

Yea, I used to work there man....And it was rediculous all the shit they wanted us to do to sell all this shit.....And the worst part of all, is you had no choice but to try to sell the crap using their BS ways of doing it, even though you knew it was bullshit.

It's a stick with no factory tach. If you've ever driven a car like that you know how annoying it is. I've actually owned two manual cars with no factory tach.

And if not mounted on the dash, where do you want him to mount it? Th floor?

When you have 4 mice under the hood and have to merge onto I-75 every day... May not be racing to you.. but it is to my car!!
