Advice Please!

I saw this on autotrader today and thought it looked stunning for the insane amount of miles that are on it. What do you all think about this? By the looks of the interrior and body it has been kept in excellent shape. I have emailed the seller asking if it has even been re-painted and if the motor is newer than the original miles. However, I talked to my dad about it and he says if the motor is newer you still gotta worry about the trans breaking. What do you all think? This car is stunning for its miles.

ehh it's not all that great IMO.... you can find something better for the money

just an idea.... I paid $1500 for my Stang with 50K original miles, new clutch/trans/rear gears, 351W swap + bolt-ons, and a couple year old paint job

Have you seen the car in person? The reason I say that is because digital photo's lie like a rug adn this is usually the case with a car this inexpensive and high on miiliage. I wouldn't worry about the trans breaking so much as being worn out, just in need of a rebuild if it was or wasn't taken care of, heck it might work just fine for another 100 lol if it was babied. I would check everything regardless of the price, from the radio to the ABS. If you plan to just rip it appart then go buy one at auction for cheaper but if you plan to drive it, like I said, check everything and get as much papaer work on the history as you can. Good luck

Man there's better deals than that out there...

Pay about 5k more and you could find an LS1 with a fair amount of miles on it...

My buddy Kevin found a 98 Z for 8k 2 years ago with 45,000 miles on it. Just have to keep an eye open, remember, people are always willing to go lower :smt023

if you're set on an lt1 watch http://camaroz28.com classifieds. ive seen a ton of 100k automatic lt1s go for 3000 and less, just dont think that the first car you see that fits the budget is THE ONE; a deal comes around at least once a week.

I would definitely run a car fax on the VIN. If you check on some larger boards you can usually find someone with a carfax account offering free checks. If you don't see an exisitng post go to a bigger board with more people and make a post asking if anyone has a carfax.

If the carfax comes out ok, go look at it, pictures can hide a lot as Jon said.

If LT-1 4th gens aren't known for trans problems, the car fax checks out ok, and you don't see any problems looking at it and test driving it, offer them 3,000. Do all of the above, if they don't accept your offer, seriously say "Thanks, I think I'm going to keep looking" and walk away. Dealers don't like to let people walk away. They might just say, ok, ok, , we'll take 3,000. If not and it looked and drove like a real good car, go back in a couple days and try to deal. The NADA is 3650 with those miles so the price isn't bad, really.

I don't know where you are at, I don't live far from where the car is. I work during week day afternoons but if you want an extra opinion looking at it any other time drop me a PM. That car is real close to me, I'd go look at it with you.

Honestly, in 1980 a 172k mile car was a pile of shit. By 1993 with the advancements in technology, especially overdrive, it isn't such a big deal. Lots of people fear newer high mileage car because of how they were in the old days and they aren't so bad anymore.

I already looked at it tonight with my dad but the second we got out of our car it started pouring. My dad said it looked very clean (and he is super anal about cars) but there was one slight thing we noticed right away. The gaps between the hood and fenders were different widths, larger gap on the passenger side and smaller gap on the driver side. I'm going to look at some other cars soon that would be way better deals:

Much lower mileage for only about $500 more, not bad.
