Interesting fact about arizona highway photo radar...

Quote:
- There are about 10 cameras setup on the 7.8 mile stretch of highway.
- It costed Arizona 10 million dollars for those cameras to be setup, and yes, we the taxpayer pay for those cameras.
- For Arizona to make the money back, they would have to issue out 80,000 tikets.
- So far this year, 18,000 tickets were sent out, but only 4200 of those have been served, all due to understaffing, not because they didn't catch you.
-Each ticket costs $157. The camera manufacutuer makes $43 from every ticket payed.
- They also noticed that there has been in increase in rear end collisions from people slowing down too fast going past lights. Uh, no sh*t. This also has caused insurance to rise here as well.
- The lack of tickets is due to people passing the cameras at legal speed, then hauling ass after they pass the cameras. EVERYBODY does this. No tickets are being issued.
- You could hire 50 new DPS officers, pay them for the year, along with Vacation, to just issue tickets on that highway alone, and Arizona would of nowhere of spent 10 million dollars to pay the officers.
- There is a bill that should be passed next year that would prevent anykind of photo radar on highways, period.
- The photo radar system in Scottsdale will be removed in December. - IM GLAD.

Well looks like Arizona got ripped off, cause Scottsdale is not making any money off these Cameras. I'll be glad to see these go...

Thats crazy...I wonder if it is anything like the system they have over in England? I was over there for 10 days, and never seen more than like 2 cops. Im guessing it works well for them, so It must be a different system.

it's not like england's. in england they can follow you all across london with cameras. it's just on one idiotic chunk of highway. they said it would "reduce accidents" but it in fact, made it worse. DUH!!! i mean I see a BRIGHT ASS flash when its dark out I'm going to be startled... what is the first thing a startled person does? jerk the wheel and or hit the brakes. :smt120 idiot politicians

and in germany on the autobahn they got the cameras taking shots of people who tailgate and mailing them tickets in the mail!

Talk about serious traffic enforcement, they did that over here, holly jeez the national debt would be gone in about 6 hours.

thats bad luck!

Hope you didnt get the ticket.

Was the light blinding enough where it could cause driver interference? Im wondering if their system may have increased driver accidents at night.
