New head unit in offing.....

Which had unit should I get to replace my Pioneer Premier DEH P960MP, the Eclipse CD7000, CD5000,Kenwood KDC-X990 or the Panasonic CQ CB8901. I really want to go with a H/U that is both XM and HD FM ready or enabled. The Panasonic CQ CB8901 has a HD Tuner built in. Both the Eclipse units are Sirius and HD ready, the Kenwood KDC-X990 has fantastic features and is XM and HD ready. What do you think?

Pioneer Premieres are simply amazing, you are definitely getting what you pay for.

And screw that last brand.

You need to find out the following before you decide...

Will they all fit your application with minimal to no modifications or extras? ie. Wiring harnesses, dash kits, do you have steering mounted stereo controls?

What options really fit your needs? I know you mentioned HD radio and satellite. HD isnt too hard to get on high end equipment (such as what your looking at) But then you need to decide which satellite radio company interests you the most, i have heard good about both, its like ford vs. chevy lol. What about CDs, MP3, WMA formats, well those are pretty standard as well. Do you have an ipod? Do you need aux inputs, do you ever plan on running video through your car (hope not :) ).

Probably the most important one is how it will feel to use in your car. The faceplate has to be easily accessible to change tracks, etc on the fly while driving w/o crashing. Those little remotes they give you? Cute but they usually end up behind my seat or dropped or somewhere else in the vehicle.

Performance issues, well most of the recievers are all the same anyways nowadays. you wont notice a 1wattx4 difference, and if you need 75 watts per 4 speakers in your car, well your prbly deaf.

Lots of things to consider, hope this helps.

I put an Eclipse in the Torino last fall. I really like it so far. And Eclipse has a sweet anti theft feature on their head units. Mine is a 5000 something. 5425 maybe? I forget. I know I said what it is in the blog part of my myspace. I'll see if I can find it here in a minute.

Can you tell me more about the anti-theft feature?

You set up a key CD. If the power is disconnected from the head unit it won't work again until you put in the key CD. Don't lose the key CD though for sure because if the battery is disconnected the key CD needs put in to make it work again. I think it has some sort of tracking device in it too so it can be traced if stolen but don't quote me on that. If you check out the eclipse website I'm sure you can find out more.
