no transmission :'-(

Well, my father and I went out hot rodding around the neighborhood and surrounding areas. When we were finished, we stopped to get gas on the way home. After we got gasoline, we went down a side street and stopped at a stop sign. My car is manual and we were going kind of fast, so it was in neutral as we were coasting to the stop sign. He went ot put it in first and it wasn't there. We shifted through 3 gears and then back to first and it finally grabbed until he tried to shift again, then we lost all gear completely.

what is wrong? During the hod rodding session(which was extremely fun) We smelled something burning. now i suspect that it was the clutch.

Do you think it is the clutch, transmission, linkage, what? I wold think clutch but it doesnt grind when you try to shift into a gear, its just like an empty space.

P.S. I posted this here because this seems like it would be more of a universal problem, rather than a Ford only problem, I feel that I will get more answers here. Feel free to move it, though.

most likey the clutch came apart, if its not contacting the fly wheel and the pressure plate (FRICTION MATERIAL GONE FROM ONE OR BOTH SIDES) its just like havign the clucth released. no gears.
whatever the problem the tranny is gonna have to come out
not that thats a big deal old ford should =nt be more to it then unhook the linkage un hook the shiter pul lthe drive shaft and undo all 6 pr so tranny bolts,, you can inspet the linkage and the clucth then and if you find they are ok you look into teh tranny

if it matters any, the transmission is a borg/warner t-5. since my motor is out of a 1993 cobra, i would suspect that my transmission came out of one as well. so it would be the "cobra spec" version, if it did. it was a little bit stronger than a normal borg/warner t-5.

I've got a couple of T5's laying around - I don't think we have any plans for them. Let me know if you end up needing one.

I have to agree, I think the clutch burned up on ya.

turns out it was the clutch. a new one is gonna run 389 dollars. thats for a decent one that can handle a beating. anyone want to donate money to the "brodie needs a new clutch" foundation?

wtf at a 400 $ clutch for a 78 car

dude call jegs what motor is in that car
should be in the 70-200 range for a clutch kit for that car
unless your getting a 1000 hp one or a aluminum flywheel
