Yes `67 was the debut of the Firebird
And Yes the Trans Am debuted was in `69 so the `79 is the 10th Anni. and so on and so forth.
Yes it was named after a Race series that it didn't Originally Compete in. (Pontiac built 17 303 ci Trans Am's in `69 that were sold as Race Cars these Cars had no Vin and were not part the original 697)
the 303 tunnel port engine never made enough power to be competitive.
Pontiac paid The SCCA $5 to use the name for every Trans Am that rolled off the assembly line `69-`02 (turned out to be a sweet deal for the SCCA)
Some T/A's were run with 302 chevy's in `69 with limited success.
In 1970 they changed the displacement rule so Trans Ams did compete, Again with limited success.

Any updates on this car?? Just wondering if you bought it, or if you'd like to pass the info on to another mullet-machine lover :smt055

my dad used to own a 69 firebird with the 400ci engine and he said it was fast but he liked his 68 camaro rs/ss 396 with over 450hp so much more. He always tells me he wishes he would have kept it since they where both awesome cars but he was alot younger and wasnt thinking lol :smt038

Ultra Z Hood - RK Sport Sport Wing - Eibach Sportlines - Edelbrock Performer IAS

And no you cant look under the hood!
