Other Western states? Well, then you have nice sand storms which are great on black paint (found that out real quick). The air is so dry you wake up feeling like your head is in a vice and your tongue is swollen. Oh and since it is so dry when it does finally rain the whole place fills up like a bath tub.
Plains states, yeah tornados do suck, so does not having shit to do other then spy on your neighbors livestock. Oh and nothing but bible/thumping bashing on the radio.
Oh man Jay, why Texas? Northern gets almost as much snow as we do, they are in Tornado alley, talk about flooding in the warmer months. Their bigger cities are as dirty as Detroit just not quite as violent but they are trying. Oh and that steers and queers joke...
OK, I am sure I offended at least one person. This was a joke, so if I did I humble myself by saying OOPS! :smt077

I'm like, totally offended...Not.
I've done the move thing several times; a stint in Socal and a stint in NY. Detroit has been the center of the known motoring universe, so's I always find my way back here...something about seein' manufacturer's plates here is somethin' you don't get anywhere else.
Anyone with the ability to move outta state should do it - just for the heckuvit. Pack up and go - don't matter where! It would be an absolute PITA to be a young 'un in Detroit these days; you're not gonna find a good job - period. With unemployment pushin' 8% and the american auto industry runnin down (auto industry stock down 30% on the average 1st qtr) I'd getthehell outta dodge ASAFP.
The desert southwest id goin' gangbusters; any major city has work - especially if you don't speak with a Spanish accent. A midwestern kid willing to work is a rare commodity out there.
Every area has its probs. Personally, if it were me and I could pick anywhere - I'd prolly go to either New Mexico or the Carolinas. I think those three states are going to do well over the next 20 years.
After that - Switzerland.

heard anything on Texas? i have been to Dallas as of recently and when i was there sumhtn grabd me. I been itchn to go back ever since. I am goin back this summer to look at different locations VIA a rent-a-car to live at. jobs here are few and far between. I know if i took my B.A and went anywhere else my odds of landing a job would be so much higher.

Southwest for a job? Sorry to seem a little sarcastic but only if you want to sell shit on the phone or tend to the elderly. And NM is no exception. Tucson has one of the worst job markets in the country and it is BETTER if you speak spanglish (in fact if you are bilingual anywhere in the southwest you are better off then just speaking English, hell you would rather just speak spanish j.k.).
Phoenix was better but cost more to live in then here (Detroit area). Cali? Not these days even if you can find work. Half a million for a 1200 square foot house in an OK neighborhood in Oakland county? F_CK that and it is worse most other places there if you want to live remotely close to a city.
Now, the Carolinas, especially North is still booming (depending on your area of proffesion) but you better get there fast. My uncle lives in Raleigh and I like it there.
As much as I rip on it, Texas is actually not a bad place to move in general or for work but it also depends on what you are doin for a living. People are nice as can be there too as long as you stay away from the scum like anywere else. Weather? Well, depends on where in Texas you live. They get everything from huricanes to snow in Texas. One thing I can't get over in the Southwest is that there is really no small towns like in the Midwest. What I mean is there is practically nada inbetween the bigger cities so when you go somewhere you have nothing but nature and ranches between point A and B. OH and the one thing I really DON'T like about Texas is the State Highway Patrol are hard asses. I don't mean they are mean but they will pull you for 1 mile an hour over. No kiddin. Such a big boring state to drive through and you can't hardly even speed!
Anyway, don't make a hasty decision no matter where you end up. Check out EVERYTHING from the culture to the local wildlife.

OK, goin for worlds largest quote box! Yeah, spend as much time there and get to know as many people as possible. I don't mean you have to make friends, just ask bluntly about the place. Hate to see yah go but can't says I blame yah. We will leave the light on for yah when you come to visit. Shit, for all I know I may leave again after school and even if I do stick around it will be because I am making a hell of a living and will be able to afford to leave when I f-in want to, time permitted.
