Actually you should check the fusible links ( they will be stretchy like a rubber band if one actually goes out). Also it is most likely a ground circuit or solenoid if the starter motor isn't turning slowly all the time. If it is, that is the starter motor creating a ass load of resistance in the circuit. This can also cause the "magic smoke" to be released never to return again.
