Window Tint Law update

Ms.Cherry has responded to my email with the following reponse, hope this will provide some information for though of you who still want it. I am asking for clarification on the term "fix-it" ticket as I thought that was in place now. Is there anything else you guys/gals want me to ask? I'll wait until we get some replies before I send it. Onto the letter!

Dear Rob,

Thank you for contacting my office with your concerns on Senate Bill
786, a bill that increases penalties for illegal window tint.

There seem to be many misconceptions about the bill. One is that it
has passed and has become law. This is not true; it is currently in the
Senate Committee on Transportation. Another is that it creates a new
offense. Excessive window tint is already against the law, the
parameters of which are spelled out in the current law (MCL 257.709). This
bill just seeks to make it a fixable offense. Also, those who have
medical needs, and have a doctors notice, for window tint are still exempt
under this proposal.

I understand the concerns stated with making this violation a
misdemeanor. Some of the emails that I have received seem to think that it is
an automatic $500 fine. This bill states that it is punishable of a
fine not less that $100 or more that $500. Again, I understand the
concern and am willing to remove that section, should this bill be considered
for a hearing before the Committee. My intent is to make it a "fix-it"
ticket.

Again, thank you for contacting my office. I hope this information is
helpful.

Sincerely,
Deborah Cherry
State Senator
