I live in a town of 2000 people, IMO I don't think it's needed. Granted I lock the door 9 times out of 10. My dad never does, problably why it was unlocked today.
I've never felt the need for "security" in this town, or many others in the U.P. for that matter. I've trusted every single person that knows how to get into my house/garage, never thought it would be a "security" issue.
I've never really thought there was a need for everything to be locked down. But, I just went through, checked and made sure all the doors were locked, boarded up the side garage door some more, took the keys out of my car and locked it.
Oh, and I moved the baseball bat from the garage to my room. :)
Edit: Yeah I am pretty lucky I have neighbors. I don't understand why anybody would try shit in my neighborhood anyways. It's 3 streets and there's cops everywhere. My neighbor that caught the kid was a cop in Texas before he moved up here. I love it, I have security guards placed strategically throughout the area.
